From the opening of the first Kendal community in 1973, residents and community members, staff, and board members have lived out the core commitment of working with older people, and others in the community, to create conditions that foster independence, well-being, security, and fulfillment in later years. Kendal has grown to include The Kendal Corporation, Kendal Charitable Funds, Kendal Outreach, LLC, continuing care retirement communities, a life care at home program, and adult communities that together provide services to more than 3,500 older adults in six states. Kendal Charitable Funds was established in 1989 to support the charitable purposes of the Kendal system of affiliates and Kendal Outreach. Those served by Kendal organizations and their boards and staffs, together with the wider constituency, support various funds for resident and member financial assistance, for reaching out into the wider world, for increasing the diversity of those served, and for improving the experience of aging far beyond our walls.
